How Long Can Bonsai Go Without Water
Not very long mary.
How long can bonsai go without water. If your tree is planted in a water retaining soil and it is constantly wet the roots will start to rot and die. And i m leaving from april 15th up to may 2nd. If you are leaving for several days or weeks ask a friend to come over and water your bonsai. There is no substitute to having a person water your bonsai.
You probably need to be water a number of times each day but a bonsai only needs a drink based upon the species of tree size of tree size of pot time of year soil mixture and climate. For a second time water thoroughly all over the surface of the compost until water can be seen to run out of the drainage holes of the pot. There is no safe period without watering. Oh and the ficus is in front of a big window facing east.
I think that s way to long time for my trees to endure it without suffering any harm. The compost and root system should now be sufficiently wetted. While forgetting to water a tree can kill it in just a few days killing a tree by overwatering is something that will take weeks. But it can go without water for a longer time than you can.
The second watering should be left for 10 20 minutes by which time any previously dry areas of the compost will be ready to accept water. It can be 1 week if the plant is in a shaded area ie no direct sunlight for more than 6 8 hrs or 1 day if its getting hit daily with sun for 6 8. So you see there s a lot more to growing miniature trees than one might think.
